RFID BASED ASSET MANAGEMENT SYSTEM

RFID technology is a fundamental technology for maximizing asset tracking efforts. It provides some inherent benefits that other identification technologies, such as bar codes or magnetic stripes, cannot provide. Specifically, RFID permits the reading of tags without the need to be in the direct line-of-sight of a reader, the reading of multiple tagged objects at a single pass, and it all but eliminates the possibility of missing an asset due to operator oversight or error.

These features of RFID technology make it more suitable for automated object identification applications. With RFID technology, companies can quickly and efficiently track all assets. RFID technology brings some unique benefits to asset tracking which may not be provided by bar codes or other tagging technologies. For example, RFID tags can help enable better tracking in situations where printed bar codes may be unreadable due to damage, or unreachable due to the way the asset is positioned while in use. Additionally, RFID tags are more conducive to automation because of their non-line-of-sight operation and because of their ability to read multiple tags at one pass. RFID technology can be used more effectively to automatically and accurately track asset movement.

» Non-networked asset tracking

Many companies use network-based asset tracking systems to track IT assets, but these systems do incomplete jobs. Items not powered up or disconnected from the network are invisible. Non-networked items may also include types of assets that are not capable of being networked. IT-related items can include server racks, power distribution units, uninterruptible power supplies, and spares. Every major industry, such as healthcare, manufacturing, biotechnology, and others use non-networked assets that must be tracked. The tracking of IT assets or networked assets has traditionally been accomplished through asset management products that discover and maintain a repository of asset and license data to enable organizations to track inventory, manage license usage, and enforce IT governance audit controls. These products typically tie into a configuration management database (CMDB) to help report accurate and timely information about all assets, aggregated from multiple systems. At ComsRFID, we are capable of providing such solutions.
